Introduction to Painting and Drawing using Soft Pastels with Doug Martindale
For students ages 15 and up
Thursdays, 5:30-7:30 PM
June 27 and July 11, 18 & 25, 2019
The soft chalk pastel class will focus on all aspects of using pastels to create original works of art. Subject matter would be mainly focused on creating landscape art, but all students would be welcome to choose their own individual subject matter. We would welcome beginners, as well as artists who have done some dabbling in pastels. Focus will be on blending techniques of pastels, layering of pastels, and upon completion of a student's composition, fixing the pastel paintings to ready them for framing.
The class will also focus on techniques I've learned over the last 30 years using pastels solely to create my works of art, including: beginning compositions with a comprehensive pencil under-drawing; use of pastel shapers, blending stumps, erasing techniques, lighting techniques, and safety techniques of using this medium.
